Wildlife Garden Pond

Here’s the completion of the Wildlife garden project we took on after Ellie of Ellie’s Wellies carried out a consultation with the customer to increase wildlife into this garden. The wildlife pond as a centre piece with a range of habitats - wood, rocks, gravel, sand, pebbles and subsoils adds beauty, interest and a focal point for people and wildlife. We upcycled a wire cage and rubble into an insect and bee habitat and changed the profile of the wider garden with piles of soil, gravel, sand, rocks and logs, planted and buried deadwood. We then added wildlife friendly shrubs and native wildflowers and seeds into the mounds. By changing the topography and creating a mosaic of materials dead and living we are optimising the habitats for wildlife.

Garden Transformation

This is a great example of what we can do to transform your outdoor space. The customer wanted a  welcoming spaces for people and wildlife. This garden is an example of a complete transformation. We worked with the family to design the garden, project managed the landscaping and sourced, supplied and planted the garden with trees, shrubs and plants to provide all year-round colour and interest. We also built and planted up the pond and laid the lawn

Community Pond workshop and build

This was a great community project. The allotment association invited me for a consultation prior to them applying for funding to create a large wildlife pond in the heart of their allotment's orchard.

I supported the funding application, designed the pond and worked with Mike of Pev's paving (Facebook) to create the pond shape and depth. I then ran a community workshop that saw over 15 people help build out the pond. We planted it up with native wildlife plants before filling from their own water well!

It's always a joy to works with community groups- Helen, the allotment project lead said 'it was a wonderful day, everyone really enjoyed it, despite the mud! and we are thrilled with the result and look forward to seeing how wildlife and our allotment community benefit from the pond and surrounds.

Work with Wildlife Garden project

In 2024 I was delighted to be asked be part of the Wildlife Garden Project's 'Wildlife Friendly Vegetable Growing project', who joined me at our family's allotment where we created a few videos as on how to get the most from your allotment or growing space in an organic, wildlife friendly way.

The Wildlife Garden Project are there to equip you with the information and inspiration to create your own little wildlife haven right on your doorstep.

Pulp Friction Chelsea Flower Show People's Choice 2024

I had the absolute honour and delight of joining Pulp Friction and Dutch Landscapes in their Chelsae Flower Show build.

Alongside designers Will and Tin-Tin from Dutch Landscape Architects, my friend and Colleague Beth Danks headed up the horticulture team at Pulp Friction and I was invited along to help with the build and planting. The Garden was awarded a silver-gilt medal for their Growing Skills Garden at the start of the Show and were later announced as the winners of the RHS People’s Choice Award by the public.

Will, Director & Founder for Dutch Landscape Architects, said “It’s incredible to have been awarded the Silver Gilt, it’s quite unbelievable, it was such an honour to just have the garden at Chelsea and the award just tops off this incredible experience.”

Uniquely, Pulp Frictions members were heavily involved throughout the entire garden planning and building process – growing a third of the plants, hand making tiles, collecting materials and filling gabions, planting on-site and more

Listen up

Grab a brew and have a listen to this great podcast series recorded at Nottingham College. Matt Bunn is the lead for sustainability at the College and speaks with guests that are influential in the city’s drive to become carbon neutral.

I chatted to him about my work and how I got into Garden making, and why sustainable gardening is so important to me.

Flower Power

Sometimes you get asked to do a dream job! South facing, long border, decent budget and free reign! I designed, sourced and planted up this long border designed to bring cohesion to a large lawn and provide a screen from a working field, I set to work on bringing colour, height and the wow factor to this border and was really please with the result!
